Sam New II (2023)
Grahic Design

This was an ongoing project, which started from the 2021 piece titled 'Sam New,' (which translate to the word, “three finger”, สามนิ้ว “S̄ām nîw” in Thai) continues to explore the symbolism associated with the prevailing repression in Thailand. The 'three-finger salute' is a symbol that became prominent during the pro-democracy protests that started in 2020.

In this latest artwork, I deconstruct the notion of democracy by transforming the symbol into a desperate plea for recognition. Through this endeavour, both the symbol and the political situation it represents are rendered into a form of mockery and satire, blurring the lines between metaphor and reality. The project holds profound personal significance for me as it revolves around a place I hold dear and cherish deeply-my home. I believe in the importance of not only acknowledging this connection but also in sharing it with both others and me. In doing so, I cultivate a heightened sense of awareness and a stronger passion for the place that occupies my heart.
